In 1990, Lera
Harris retired from a 30 year teaching career in Louisiana and moved to Rockport,
Texas. She discovered the local art world almost immediately and took up
painting as a hobby. Over the years her hobby became a second career.
| In
June, 2002, Lera opened
her own downtown Art Gallery, Coastal Creations.
It is a working studio
and gallery, featuring Lera's original acrylic paintings, fine
art prints and numerous customized note cards printed from her
original work.
The Texas coastal
environment is Lera's inspiration. Shore birds, windswept trees,
shrimp boats, bait stands, ever-changing water and lonely beaches come alive with her colorful, unique and happy style of
painting.

Today her gallery includes
many originals and over
50 giclée prints of her artwork. Her paintings have
become favorites of visitors from all over who fall
in love with this area and want to take home a bit
of Lera's coastal art. |

In 2005 her
painting of hummingbirds
was chosen by the Chamber to be
printed
on their T-shirts for the
Hummer/Bird Celebration.
|
Lera's motto:
'I love to paint and paint what I love!'
